Kent ISD cuts 10 positions due to loss of grants, dip in online school enrollment

Kent ISD — The Kent ISD School Board voted May 16 to eliminate 10 positions due to the loss of grant funding and declining enrollment at its online school.

The elimination of several grants in Michigan’s 2026-27 state budget led to three positions being cut: an English learner coach, an adult education community outreach coordinator and a data and research support specialist.

The board also voted to eliminate seven MySchool@Kent positions: a registrar; a counselor; an English teacher; a teacher consultant and three coach/invention positions. Just before the pandemic, the online school enrolled about 800 students.
