Popular Grand Rapids deli reopens after flood damage

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Neighborhood eatery Schnitz Deli in Grand Rapids reopened Thursday after recovering from flood damage during severe thunderstorms earlier this month.

“The basement had about 2 foot of water in it when we got here, but it was like (a maximum of about) 4 feet of water,” Dan Rios, owner of Schnitz Deli, told News 8 on March 11, the day after the storm.

Rios and his team spent about two weeks hard at work repairing and cleaning the establishment so Schnitz Deli could reopen Thursday at 10 a.m.

“We’re excited to reopen on Thursday to serve your favorite sandwiches, sides and desserts again,” a Monday Facebook post from the deli read.
