Power largely restored in Hudsonville area

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Power has been restored in the Hudsonville area after a significant outage Tuesday morning, which prompted two schools to close and darkened traffic lights.

West Michigan was hit by strong winds overnight. The outage in the Hudsonville area was first reported around 1:40 a.m. and affected nearly 1,300 customers at its peak, the Consumers Energy interactive power map previously showed.

Before power was restored, the outage caused Hudsonville High School and Hudsonville Christian Middle School to cancel classes for the day. A News 8 crew also saw dark traffic lights along Chicago Drive.

By about 7:50 a.m., crews managed to isolate the outage and restore power to nearly everyone in the Hudsonville area, Consumers told News 8. The exception was a small pocket of around 20 customers in the area of Van Buren Street and Park Avenue.

“The outage was caused by broken poles and crews will be on scene working to replace those and finalize restoration efforts for those remaining customers,” Consumers spokesperson Trisha Bloembergen wrote in an email…
