Interim GRPD Chief: Gun seizures have more than doubled since COVID

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids city leaders are taking a closer look at a recent rise in officer-involved shootings. Data presented Tuesday to City Commissioners outlines both the circumstances behind the incidents and broader trends in gun violence across the city.

Interim Police Chief Joe Trigg presented a review of 10 officer-involved shootings between 2022 and 2025 Tuesday morning. The report was requested by City Manager Mark Washington following questions from commissioners.
