The Kent County Prosecutor has reached a decision as to whether he will charge the Grand Rapids Police Department officer who shot and killed Da’Quain Johnson the morning of February 18.
The Shooting and Death of Da’Quain Johnson in Grand Rapids
Johnson was shot after being pursued by police while he rode his bicycle on Eastern Ave. SE north of Martin Luther King St. Police say that Johnson, who was on parole for a weapons violation, was in possession of a gun.
During the pursuit, Johnson fell in the parking lot of Eastern Lofts, at which time officers released a K-9 that pinned Johnson down. An officer then attempted to handcuff Johnson, and at that time, Johnson was shot in the back. The officer claims that Johnson pointed the firearm at him…
