GRAND RAPIDS, MI β A former city commissioner, a professor, several local business owners and a marketing freelancer are among the candidates vying for an open seat on the Grand Rapids City Commission this month.
The vacancy was left by former 1st Ward Commissioner Drew Robbins, who resigned last month to run for higher office. Now, the city commission is tasked with appointing someone to fill the open seat for the rest of Robbinsβ term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026.
Ten applicants have been vetted to move forward to the interview process. They will be interviewed on April 17 by the city commissionβs committee on appointments, which will then recommend a batch of finalists to the city commission for final selection…
