GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — On the heels of a decision not to try the officers involved in the shooting of 32-year-old Da’Quain Johnson, people in the community gathered for a caravan for justice.
While the event comes right after Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker’s decisionwas released, organizers say the gathering was not just a demonstration for Johnson. Community leaders said the protest was for all those who have died from use-of-force incidents involving police.
A small but powerful crowd gathered at Modern Hardware, where the convoy began before taking their message to the streets. The caravan made two stops at significant locations. The first was on the city’s southeast side, where 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya was shot and killed by a Grand Rapids police officer in 2022…
