Grand Rapids’ Butterball® Farms marks 70 years of butter innovation

Butter might not seem like a product ripe for innovation. But for Grand Rapids-based Butterball® Farms, finding new ways to shape and flavor butter didn’t just build the business — it also helped build the company’s reputation nationally.

Butterball® Farms, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, grew through innovations such as embossed butter pats. Those early creations sparked a stream of new ideas, and today Butterball® Farms is known for its specialty butters and flavor solutions.

“We have a history of solving problems in our niche and continuing to evolve as our mission grows,” said CEO Mark Peters, whose father, Leo Peters, founded the company.

One of those niche solutions, the embossed butter pat, was once used in McDonald’s breakfast meals, and the company remains a partner for the butter served with its breakfast menu…
