Kent County deputies arrest driver fleeing 100 mph on US-131

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver who sped away from deputies on US-131 at speeds over 100 mph was arrested after a police helicopter tracked the car up the highway and into a garage.

It all started the night of March 28, when deputies were called to a private parking lot near 100th Street and US-131 in Byron Township for a report of drivers doing burnouts and recklessly driving, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, several vehicles fled from police, including a white Dodge Charger.

Dashcam footage shows the moments the Charger was spotted heading north on US-131 in Grand Rapids at speeds “well over 100 mph,” the sheriff’s office wrote. The deputy tries to pull the driver over before he speeds off, out of sight. That’s when the deputy stops chasing him.
