Man drives directly into pond during high-speed chase in Kentwood

KENTWOOD, Mich. — A 39-year-old man is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with the vehicle partially submerged in a small Kentwood pond last month, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies tried to pull the man over on April 7 as he was suspected to be involved in a felonious assault that happened the previous night, the sheriff’s office said.

The man instead drove away, and the dashcam inside one of the pursing deputy’s cruisers caught the moment he drove straight into a small pond near the Celebration Cinema on Eastport Drive.

Moments after the impact, the 39-year-old could be seen walking out onto the grass with his hands up before laying down on his stomach.

Deputies said they found several firearms, some of which were loaded, and methamphetamine inside the vehicle…
