Illinois man sentenced for distributing fentanyl in Wisconsin

(WFRV) – Authorities say one Illinois man will spend the next 6 1/2 years in prison for distributing more than 150 grams of fentanyl in Wisconsin.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Wisconsin, 31-year-old Kendrick Payton sold heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl multiple times in Beloit, Wisconsin, between December 18, 2024, and February 18, 2025.

In total, officials say Payton sold more than 150 grams of fentanyl over the course of four separate controlled buys.

The Illinois man pleaded guilty to the fentanyl charge on April 15, 2026. Payton was sentenced by a judge to 6 1/2 years in prison, with the judge commenting that the suspect’s criminal history, dating back to his childhood, was “concerning,” and Payton did not appear ready to stop dealing drugs without the court’s intervention.

Following the 6 1/2-year prison term, Payton will also be subject to 5 years of supervised release. No other information is available…
