De Pere native in the running for $10K resilience award after injury comeback

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) — One of the only three finalists selected for the inaugural Mueller Sports Medicine REVIVE Award is a native of De Pere, Wisconsin, according to Mueller Sports Medicine’s website.

Samuel Bruss, a wrestler from the University of Mary, was nominated for the national award. Its goal is to recognize collegiate student-athletes who have “demonstrated extraordinary resilience, perseverance, and character in overcoming adversity”.

And overcome adversity, Bruss has.

Two years ago, Bruss suffered a nearly-fatal accident that caused several severe internal injuries and resulted in a multitude of surgeries. Bruss was told afterward, due to having 70% of his involuntary and voluntary sphincter muscles destroyed, that he’d “never wrestle again”…
