Reader question: I read your article today about the Shipyard project announcement. I was wondering if, during your research, if you found any connection or collaboration between the Shipyard planning group and the Mason Street bridge reconstruction project? With the close proximity of these two projects, I worry that the Shipyard project would negatively impact the ability of the Mason St project to explore the best possible solutions for rebuilding the bridge.
Answer: Millions of dollars in neighboring developments sit along a less than half-mile stretch of the Fox River in Green Bay’s downtown. The long-delayed Shipyard redevelopment will bring an urbanized park and an estimated $15 million in property value from yet-to-be-built apartments and commercial spaces next door. Several hundred feet away are the coal piles whose eventual move will free up valuable riverfront property for development.
And sandwiched in between is Green Bay’s Mason Street bridge, formally known as the Donald A. Tilleman Bridge, to be rebuilt in some fashion for anywhere between $43 million and $120 million…
