Packers Make Notable Decision After Anders Carlson’s Tough Rookie Season

The Green Bay Packers took a big risk by drafting Auburn’s Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. At first, it seemed like the risk paid off. But throughout the season, it was clear that the Packers overreached on the pick.

Carlson made his first 17 kicks, but struggled from there on. He missed a league-high 11 kicks during the regular season. He missed two more kicks during the postseason, including an extra-point miss vs. Dallas and a field-goal miss vs. San Francisco.

The Packers, as a result, are making a change. They aren’t moving on from Carlson just yet, but they are going to turn the pressure up a notch.

The Packers are signing former Georgia standout Jack Podlesny to provide some competition for Carlson this offseason.

Podlesny went just 13 of 24 on field-goal attempts over 40 yards during this three college football seasons.
