Packers make another coaching staff move

Firing Joe Barry wasn’t the only coaching staff move made by the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday. Head coach Matt LaFleur also parted ways with strength and conditioning coordinator Chris Gizzi.

Gizzi had been with the Packers since 2014. First, he was a strength and conditioning assistant. He was promoted to coordinator in 2019, when Matt LaFleur took over as the head coach.

He played for the Packers in 2000 and 2001, finishing up a four-year NFL career — he had spent time with the Denver Broncos earlier.

Gizzi started his football coaching career in 2013, as a strength and conditioning assistant in North Carolina. One year later, he was hired by the Packers.

In 2019, it was an interesting move by LaFleur. The Packers switched positions, promoting Gizzi to coordinator and demoting Mark Lovat to assistant — Lovat is still a part of the coaching staff.

It’s unclear at this point if the new strength and conditioning coordinator will be an outside hire or if LaFleur will promote one of his assistants. Besides Lovat, the strength and conditioning staff has Thadeus Jackson and Grant Thorne.
