After rescuing 28 dogs from Chilton home, Fox Valley Humane Association is seeking donations

APPLETON — The Fox Valley Humane Association is seeking donations to care for 28 dogs who were rescued from a home in Chilton.

The first six dogs of the group are available for adoption beginning Thursday, the humane society announced on Facebook.

On Jan. 16, humane society staff worked with law enforcement and the Calumet County Health Department to rescue 28 dogs and one cat from a home on Graves Street, Calumet County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derek Bries said.

Brenda Leick, director of development at the Fox Valley Humane Association, said the rescue was scheduled to take place a few days later, but when the humane society learned some of the dogs were dying, they jumped into action sooner.

Leick said some dogs died before rescuers were able to get there.

Bries said the homeowner is cooperating with public health authorities, and no criminal charges are being considered.

All the dogs are small breed mixes. They are a variety of ages, including some puppies, Leick said.

Before the rest of the pups are adoption-ready, they need to gain enough weight to be spayed or neutered, and more than half need dental procedures, Leick said.
