The Green Bay Packers hired a bright mind to their offensive coaching staff. Former Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion has retired from football and accepted a position to coach with the Packers, according to ESPN’s Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson.
Mannion was seen around NFL circles as a future coach considering how smart and knowledgeable he is. And that’s why he got jobs in the league over the last couple of years, even though his level of play was never that good. Mannion was a third-round pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2015, and he was with the franchise through 2019. Since then, he has spent time alternating between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks.
His last NFL start was exactly against the Green Bay Packers, in 2021. Last season, he was on the Vikings practice squad for almost two months, and then signed with the Seahawks in December.

Role
It’s still undisclosed what Sean Mannion’s role on the Packers coaching staff will be, but Brady Henderson reported that it will include helping quarterbacks and the passing game. Presumably, it could be a position that opens a path for him to be the quarterbacks coach when 70-year-old coach Tom Clements retires — the Packers also have Connor Lewis as an assistant quarterbacks coach.
