Wisconsin Court Convicts Ex-Guard for Strangling, Burning Woman

Green Bay, WI – In a shocking case that has captured public attention, Shane Nolan, a former prison guard from Green Bay, was found guilty of violently assaulting Dessiray Koss. The incident, which took place on July 3, 2021, involved Nolan strangling Koss and throwing her into a fire pit, leading to severe burns and lasting physical trauma for the victim.

The trial, which concluded recently in Wisconsin, saw Nolan, 32, convicted on two charges: felony substantial battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. However, he was acquitted of hate crime enhancers, a decision that has sparked debate in the community. Nolan, who was a prison guard at the time of the attack but was subsequently fired, met Koss when he and a friend accepted a ride from her sister and her friend after meeting in a bar. The group eventually moved to Dessiray’s house, where the incident occurred.

Dessiray Koss, also 32, suffered third-degree burns to her upper right arm, as well as burns and injuries to her left wrist and chin. These injuries have resulted in permanent scarring and nerve pain, significantly impacting her quality of life. Koss also required plastic surgery and physical therapy as a result of the attack.
