GREEN BAY, Wis. WFRV – Amber alerts assist authorities while recovering a missing child. The alerts are sent to the general public to prevent a child’s life from being in danger. In order to receive alerts on your mobile device, the alert settings must be enabled. Green Bay Police Lieutenant Jason Allen says when the alerts are received time is of the essence.
“When we deal with amber alerts, we know that time is usually a key factor in getting this out to our public for assistance, get it out to our media outlets for assistance,” explained Allen.
The alerts increase the chances of a child returning home safely, Allen encourages the public to stay alert once they receive an alert.
“It’s important for the public that if they see something that looks suspicious or looks like the person on the amber alert, do not to hesitate because it could be that little bit of time there that they saw this person that could help officials locate that person,” stated Allen.
Authorities encourage you to double-check the settings on your phone to ensure that you receive all alerts. You can also receive alerts via email by registering with the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network.
