The Packers’ timeline to pay Jordan Love

The biggest questions of the Green Bay Packers offseason is if, how, when and for how much the team will extend quarterback Jordan Love. The if seems to be an easy answer. According to NFL Network’s insider Ian Rapoport , the team management is willing to find a long-term agreement.

“The Packers are expected to be willing to discuss a new, fair-market deal for Love that pays him like a true starter.”

General manager Brian Gutekunst had already mentioned his desire to find a long-term agreement between the parties.

“I think we will go down that road,” Gutekunst said during his end-of-season press conference. “Certainly, I think that’ll be important for our football team to have some stability there. Jordan and his representation, they’re really good people, so we will start working towards that some time in the next couple months.”

Now, it’s a matter of when it will happen. Last offseason, the Packers gave Love a one-year extension to replace his fifth-year option in a way that made the contract more flexible for the team — and with more upside for the quarterback.
