The Little Chute High School dance team is a “dynasty” that has taken home state championships, said district activities director Kelly Wallace.
But over this weekend, the team got to take its talents to a national stage.
The Little Chute High School dance team took home two of the top prizes at the Dance Team Union National Championship, which ran from last Wednesday to Sunday in Orlando, Florida.
The competition has several styles and categories, including hip-hop, jazz and military. Teams are also divided by grade level and number of people on each team. Because the Little Chute team has 25 high school girls, it had stiff competition from across the country in the Large Varsity category.
“We were up against schools of over 4,000 kids,” said coach Beth DeBruin, while Little Chute has around 500.
Both competition routines were ‘high-energy’ with challenging maneuvers
The Little Chute Dance team won the Large Varsity Pom Championship and was the runner-up in Large Varsity Kick. The pom championship requires teams to pull off difficult routines with pom-poms, while the kick competition incorporates complicated kick lines and maneuvers.
