GREEN BAY — The message of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz’s first visit to northeastern Wisconsin this election cycle was aimed at every kind of Wisconsinite 22 days before Election Day, as 850 people gathered Monday in the KI Convention Center.
To the ones who wore camo hats and stood next to those who wore Charli XCX “Brat” caps, to union workers swinging to jazz before the event alongside children towed by their parents: “With Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, there’s a seat for everyone in this country,” said Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer who opened for the Minnesota governor alongside Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich.
Just as many football references as types of people wove through Walz’s speech as he pushed the contrast between Harris and former president Donald Trump on the economy, health care, and character through references to the sport.
These are issues that Trump also sought to highlight the differences on during his trip last week to Juneau.
