University of Wisconsin-Green Bay joins “Get Out The Vote” dance party to encourage civic engagement

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – In advance of the General Election on Nov. 5, members of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) community gathered at the school library to take part in a ‘Get Out The Vote’ dance party.

The event is part of the nonpartisan nonprofit Civic Responsibility Project’s ‘Party to the Polls Purple Tour,’ which is in partnership with Daybreaker.

“We’re just trying to bring some joy to the civic engagement process and promote a culture of early voting to hopefully get people excited and energized about election season,” Divinity Matovu said. “It’s been really exciting and fun, people stop and look to see the dancers and people with live instruments, and that’s what we want.”

The event on UWGB’s campus is hardly the only one of its kind in Wisconsin. On Wednesday, the Purple Tour reached Madison, and on Thursday it was active in Eau Claire.

The Purple Tour isn’t done in Wisconsin either, as it will be in Milwaukee on Sunday and Kenosha on Nov. 1, encouraging the youth to do their ‘civic duty’ and vote.
