According to a release from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy parked on the side of the roadway around 1:00 a.m. on County Highway CE near County Highway N in Buchanan while trying to remove a dear carcass from the road.

Officials say the deputy was parked on the left eastbound and had his emergency lights on as he was preparing to remove the dead deer.

A large SUV approached the scene and did not move over in to another lane, leading it to hit the back of the patrol car and sending it 75 feet down the road.

The SUV then reportedly went across the median of the roadway and almost hit the deputy who was able to safely move out of the way.

Officials say the SUV continued across the westbound lanes and came to a stop on the ramp to County Highway CE where the driver then attempted to flee from the scene on foot.
