GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Area Public School District invited all female students within its schools to try out wrestling on Thursday night.
The event, held in the brand-new wrestling room at Green Bay West High School, was open to all grade levels, allowing girls to try the sport in a fun environment with minimal pressure on their shoulders.

Green Bay City Clerk and fellow wrestling mom Celestine Jeffreys said she was impressed by the number of girls at the event.
“The wide variety of young women who are here ready to lend their talent, time and energy to girls wrestling is fabulous,” Jeffreys said.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) indicates that girls’ wrestling is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, according to the release.
Jeffreys said that wrestling is an “excellent way to explore who you are.”
