APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Appleton are reminding motorists to drive sober after making nine operating while intoxicated (OWI) arrests over the past weekend.
The Appleton Police Department said the arrests serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the serious consequences that come with choosing to get behind the wheel while under the influence.

“Drunk driving is not just a crime, it’s a life-threatening decision,” the department stated. “Each year, impaired driving leads to thousands of preventable crashes, injuries, and fatalities.”

To avoid impaired driving, police recommend planning ahead. If you intend to consume alcohol, arrange for a sober ride before going out. Options include designating a sober driver, calling a taxi, or using a rideshare service. Officials also urge people to never allow friends or family to drive under the influence.
