Elevated severe thunderstorm & tornado risk issued for Iowa Wisconsin Minnesota for Monday

THERE IS A MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM CENTRAL IOWA INTO SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN… …SUMMARY…“An outbreak of severe weather is likely across portions of the Midwest and Upper Midwest. Large hail, severe wind gusts, and strong to intense tornadoes are likely. A tornado outbreak with the potential for strong to intense tornadoes is possible on Monday.”

We are setting up for a widespread severe weather outbreak Monday April 28, 2025 that will extend from Northeast Texas northward to Minnesota & the Western Great Lakes. The Storm Prediction Center has already issued a “moderate risk” or a 45 percent chance for severe thunderstorms and at least a 15 percent chance of long lived destructive tornadoes. It is not often that we see the Storm Prediction Center issue a moderate risk in the day 3 forecast period and there is a an increasing chance that we could see a “high risk” area being designated come Monday.
