We are proud to name as this week’s Laura Lee and Cutter Weenie of the Week, whoever the jag offs are that completely destroyed not one but two of Green Bay’s painted pianos. Our friend Tarl Knight, owner of the Tarlton theater, is behind something called Green Bay’s Keys to the City. A project of art and music that truly comes from the heart to help make Green Bay a more vibrant place full of music and art. In various parks throughout the city you can find a fully playable piano that was painted by local artists. Anyone can just sit down and tickle the ivories. The goal is to allow people who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to play an instrument like this to play and maybe even learn something. And to definitely bring some joy. About a month ago, the piano at Fisk Park was completely destroyed, and unfortunately, the city will not let Tarl or his team replace it due to its close proximity to a school where the Green Bay Police think the students are to blame. This week, though, another one was demolished, this time at Tank Park. Like, who does that? I understand kids will be kids and teenagers do what teenagers do, but to completely vandalize a harmless musical instrument that did nothing but exist for its true purpose of allowing people to play it, and unlike a Kardashian, the sounds of it being played are enjoyable. While the police say they do have a witness, so far, no names or thoughts of who is responsible have been released. Is it in fact crappy teens like the theory suggests? Or is it a Karen in the neighborhood who thinks music is the work of the devil, unless, of course, it’s church hymns. We may never know, but what we do know is that whoever is responsible for beating the absolute hell out of these poor, helpless painted pianos is worthy of the title we are giving them.

So for … not even being original in your destruction. Lucy destroyed Schroeder’s piano in a Peanuts comic on almost a weekly basis…
