Wisconsin Air Quality Alert: Wildfire Smoke Brings Unhealthy Levels Through Tuesday Afternoon

Green Bay, Wis. – Canadian wildfire smoke is blanketing much of Wisconsin today, with air quality expected to reach unhealthy levels in many areas through Tuesday afternoon. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Advisory for most of the northern and west-central counties, including Brown, Marathon, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Door.

According to the DNR, PM2.5 fine particle concentrations are forecast to reach “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” in the orange range, with pockets of “Unhealthy” red levels, particularly in far northwestern Wisconsin. The worst conditions are likely in counties such as Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland, where dense smoke will linger until a cold front moves through Tuesday morning.

Sensitive individuals — including those with asthma, heart disease, or respiratory conditions — are urged to limit prolonged outdoor activity, take frequent breaks if outside, and keep quick-relief medications handy.
