Fox Valley teens attend safe driver program ‘FOCUS’ to learn real-life impacts of dangerous driving

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – ThedaCare representatives hosted day one of the annual FOCUS event on Wednesday at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center with the goal of helping teens make safer choices behind the wheel.

On Wednesday and Thursday, over 4,600 Fox Valley high school students will see real-examples of what can happen when bad decisions are made behind the wheel. Dr. David Schultz, a general surgeon and ThedaCare’s Level II Trauma Center medical director said the event included skits.

“We go through a skit that goes through a series of bad decisions that lead to a car crash,” Dr. Schultz said. “We simulated the extraction of the victims of a car crash, and took them through the journey of a car crash victim in the intensive care unit.”

The program targets 15-16-year-olds, who will be the newest drivers on the road, giving them the tools to make safe choices behind the wheel…
