Dan Shallue of Manitowoc and Pat Kelliher were on the Tug Ludington when the Edmund Fitzgerald started to sink in November 1975, recalling some of what they experienced.
Shallue and Kelliher said that they had received word from the Coast Guard that a boat had gone down, but they didn’t know until later that it happened to be the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The two wanted to dock in Sturgeon Bay; however, conditions negated that possibility, as if they turned right, it would’ve caused significant damage if not worse.
