Green Bay Common Council debates tighter rules for short-term rentals

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Common Council met Monday night, where short-term rentals became a highly debated topic.

The city’s Equal Rights Commission has endorsed tightening rules for these types of rentals, specifically setting a minimum rental period of seven days and a maximum of 180 days.

City officials say the number of short-term rentals has increased significantly in recent years, and they hope new rules could encourage more first-time homebuyers instead.

“I’m more concerned with foreclosing the continued increase of short-term rentals, and keeping those kinds of homes available for people to purchase is going to drive the price down for everybody else because there will be more housing stock that’s available,” said Jon Shelton with the Green Bay Equal Rights Commission…
