Cold weather drives up demand for Green Bay warming shelters

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — Green Bay warming shelters are seeing an early spike in demand as temperatures drop faster than expected.

Bitter cold poses hypothermia risk in northeast Wisconsin

At the New Community Shelter, CEO Terri Refsguard says the cold hit quickly — and so did the need.

“It happened fast,” Refsguard said. “If we weren’t ready… can you imagine if you didn’t have the proper winter wear today?”

The shelter keeps coats and winter gear stocked at the front desk, but Refsguard says supplies are already thinning…
