December 6, 1821- Wisconsin’s first post office established in Green Bay

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On this day December 6, 1821, Wisconsin’s first post office was established in Green Bay with James Lockwood as postmaster.

It remained the only post office until 1824 when the second was established in Prairie Du Chein.

The City of Madison’s first post office opened in 1937 near the intersection of Butler and Wilson Streets…
