Kayaker who staged drowning on Green Lake, Ryan Borgwardt, released from custody

GREEN LAKE, Wis. (WFRV) – Ryan Borgwardt, the 46-year-old Wisconsin man who last year faked his own death on Green Lake and fled the country, has now been released from custody, according to local officials.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Local 5 News that Borgwardt was released, and online jail records list him as “out of custody” as of December 2.

Borgwardt was sentenced on August 26 after pleading no contest to misdemeanor obstruction of an officer for staging his own drowning and disappearing.
