APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The blinking lights on a vehicle may just be thought of as just a courtesy to other drivers, but officials in Appleton say they also serve an important purpose.
In a recent post shared on social media by the Appleton Police Department, officials say that while some people treat their vehicles’ turn signals as optional accessories, they actually are meant to act as the vehicle’s way of saying “I’m about to do something.”

Instead of playing an impromptu game of “Guess the Lane Change,” turn signals help prevent let other drivers know what one driver is about to do, therefore preventing crashes, keeping traffic flow going smoothly, and reducing the number of “white-knuckle” moments for everyone out on the road.
Other than it taking just a single second to flick on, police say using turn signals is basic road etiquette similar to “holding a door open, but at 25 mph.”…
