Person found dead in Grand Chute hotel room following 5 1/2 hour standoff

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV) – One person was found dead in a Grand Chute hotel room Tuesday evening following what was about a 5 1/2 standoff with police, authorities say.

According to a release from the Grand Chute Police Department, officers from the department received a request at 12:40 p.m. from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office to assist in locating a person of interest for their agency.

Grand Chute police officers located the person’s vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel on the 100 block of South Nicolet Road, at which time officials requested that the public avoid the area.

After attempting to contact the person of interest, officials say the person barricaded themselves in their room and was believed to be armed. Concerning comments from the person of interest regarding a potential firearm and its use led police to evacuate the surrounding floors of the hotel out of an abundance of caution…
