Appleton Health Department reports high flu activity, rising COVID-19 cases

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) — The Appleton Health Department says respiratory illness activity is elevated in the area, with both COVID-19 and influenza cases increasing.

According to the department, COVID-19 activity is currently at a moderate level and trending upward. Influenza activity is listed as very high and also increasing. Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, remains low and stable.

Health officials are encouraging residents to take steps to reduce the spread of illness, including staying up to date on vaccinations, washing hands frequently and practicing good hygiene.

The department also recommends improving air quality by gathering outdoors when possible, opening windows or doors, or using high-efficiency particulate air cleaners. Covering coughs and sneezes and staying home when sick are also advised.
