Wild Things: Ice Anglers Cautiously Exploring

Anglers need to be aware this week when exploring anywhere outside protected bays, harbors and nearshore areas on Green Bay, with rain, thawing temperatures and ice-breaking ship traffic all happening.

Ice thickness varies widely, which is why some guides continue to run airboats until everything firms up. There’s also a lot of rough shove ice piled in places, hindering access or making travel difficult.

For now, many anglers are sticking to bays, harbors, marinas and other areas away from the shipping lanes. Sturgeon Bay, Sawyer Harbor, Sand Bay, Rileys Bay, Little Sturgeon Bay and the shoreline between Little Sturgeon and Dyckesville are drawing the most attention, along with some of the northern Door bays and harbors…
