Menasha police officer officially charged with misconduct while in public office

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The Menasha Police Officer accused of stalking following an investigation by the Appleton Police Department has officially been charged.

A criminal complaint acquired by Local 5 alleges that Cristian Morales committed misconduct while in public office, a Class I felony punishable by up to 3.5 years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.

The complaint states that a victim spoke to Officer Schmitz with the Appleton Police Department multiple times about their relationship with Morales, in concern that he had used the Flock System to determine where the victim’s vehicle was.

Officer Schmitz reviewed data of Morales’ Flock Safety account, which revealed it was created on March 10 when he was hired by the Menasha Police Department. From October 7 to October 14, seven search inquiries were made by Morales, five of which were for the victim’s vehicle…
