Light snow returns Thursday night

Winds will gradually slow down tonight and wind chills will hold within a few degrees on either side of zero. Lows will range from the single digits north into the lower teens around the Fox Valley and Lakeside. Skies will be variably cloudy tonight with thicker clouds arriving by Thursday afternoon.

Our next weathermaker is a long duration snow event, beginning Thursday night. Through Saturday, many of us will pick up 2-4″ of snow… the first half of that will fall Thursday night into Friday morning. Drivers should plan for slippery roads and a longer commute early Friday. An additional half inch to an inch will fall during the day Friday with another coating to 1″ on Saturday.

Even colder weather is poised to arrive late this weekend. High temperatures will drop into the single digits and teens. Nasty subzero wind chills will be likely, especially on Martin Luther King Junior Day and again Tuesday morning. Monday morning’s “feel-like temperatures” may plunge into the teens below zero with some negative 20s Tuesday. Colder than normal weather will likely hang around through much of the rest of January…
