After Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica, entire neighborhoods were left damaged or destroyed, including the homes of hundreds of resort workers who suddenly had nowhere to live.
For De Pere home builder Dirk Bartolazzi, the devastation became personal.

“My wife’s family is from Jamaica,” Bartolazzi said. “Her family was born and raised there, and she contacted some of her relatives to ask what we could do to help. They immediately jumped at the chance to get us down there to help rebuild homes.”
When Bartolazzi first arrived on the island, he said the damage was overwhelming.
“The first time I got there, it was devastating,” he said. “The island was still kind of closed, so the devastation was pretty dramatic. Power lines were down everywhere, houses were collapsed everywhere, flooding was still noticeable.”…
