GREENVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – Early Saturday morning, a carbon monoxide scare at an Outagamie County assisted living facility caused residents to shelter in place while crews investigated the situation.
Around 4:45 a.m. on January 24, the Greenville Fire Department responded to the Living Tree Estates for a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm going off with reports of an unknown odor.
Crews arrived and found very high levels of CO and detectable levels of natural gas.

With the dangerously cold temperatures, residents were not able to evacuate outside, so first responders moved them to one end of the building that had no significant CO levels.
While ventilating the building, plans were set up to bring the residents to a temporary shelter at a local church. However, crews say that “the ventilation efforts, combined with identifying an iced-over furnace vent pipe causing the issue, allowed us to begin to manage the air quality.”…
