Appleton upholds cease-and-desist order for tourist rooming house

A downtown Appleton tourist rooming house that was ordered to cease operation due to building code violations had its appeal of the order denied.

The Appleton Board of Health held a Feb. 11 hearing on the appeal and voted 7-0 to uphold the city’s cease-and-desist order for Stateview Commons’ tourist rooming house on the second floor of 532 W. College Ave.

A property inspection in March determined the tourist rooming house was in violation of building and fire codes. Appleton informed Keystone Futures LLC, doing business as Stateview Commons, in May that its tourist rooming house license wouldn’t be renewed until the property was brought into compliance…
