Municipalities give residents extra time to clear sidewalks following major winter storm

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Cleanup efforts are underway after a blizzard dumped record snowfall over the weekend, with attention now shifting to sidewalks after crews worked around the clock to clear major roadways.

The city of Green Bay says sidewalk clearing comes after main roads are cleared. Because of how much snow fell, crews are still catching up, and city officials say it could take extra time for sidewalks to be fully cleared.

Residents encouraged to report uncleared sidewalks

“If there are sidewalks that are not cleared, you know, feel free to report those to us. And we can make sure that we add those to our list and get to them as soon as we can,” said Valerie Joosten, director of public works for the city of Green Bay.

According to the city of Green Bay ordinance 34-14, property owners and renters must clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of a snowfall or risk fines. But due to the amount of snow, the city is giving residents a temporary grace period to clear those pathways without penalties…
