Appleton man found asleep in drive-thru line, arrested for OWI

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Appleton say a man was recently arrested after falling asleep during the early morning hours while actively in line at an area drive-thru.

According to a release from the Appleton Police Department, an off-duty officer encountered a vehicle in line at a drive-thru at 3:26 a.m. that was not moving, despite other vehicles in the area moving around it.

Some of the other vehicles in the drive-thru line began honking at the vehicle with no effect, leading to the off-duty officer approaching the vehicle and finding the driver asleep at the wheel.

Officials say the off-duty officer called dispatch, who sent on-duty officers to the location. Police then woke the driver up, who denied drinking, despite allegedly smelling of intoxicants, slurring his speech, and being unable to stand without swaying…
