Wisconsin School Uses Book Vending Machine to Encourage Reading

If you’re a parent trying to get your kid interested in reading, instead of, you know, bugging them, you might just give them a chance to win a book from a vending machine.

That’s exactly what’s happening at King Elementary School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where a new book vending machine is turning good behavior and reading into real rewards.

How Students Earn Books From the Vending Machine

Students can earn tokens by meeting reading goals and personal milestones. Once they get a token, they can head over to the vending machine, drop that sucker in, and grab a brand-new book to take home.

Program Funded by Grant and PTO Support

The program was made possible by a grant and support from the school’s PTO, which uses the King School Way, which focuses on being responsible, respectful, attentive, and appreciative.
