Green Bay man ruled not competent for trial on charges he tried to kill his girlfriend

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Floyd Simmons is not competent to stand trial for allegedly trying to kill his girlfriend, a judge ruled Friday.

Simmons, 63, faces six charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide and strangulation and suffocation, for the Sept. 5, 2025, incident at Jackson Square Park in downtown Green Bay.

Competency refers to the defendant’s ability to understand court proceedings and assist in his own defense. After testimony from a doctor Friday, Judge Samantha Wagner ruled Simmons is not competent currently, but is likely to regain competency.
