GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Dozens of people came out to voice their thoughts on Guilford County’s proposed budget, including a possible reduction in the county’s property tax rate, during a public hearing at Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Commissioners.
The board’s public hearing was an opportunity for the public to weigh in on the proposed $1.1 billion 2026-2027 budget before it goes to a vote. The budget received a mixed response.

This budget would set the property tax rate at 61.90 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, which is 11.15 cents lower than the previous year. Some of the speakers, however, said that the 11.15-cent reduction is not enough.
The reduction is intended to help ease concerns after many Guilford County residents received notices earlier this year that their properties were reassessed at a higher value than they expected. Some said their property values skyrocketed anywhere from 40% to 60%…
