100-degree weather coming to Piedmont Triad this week

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — We’re starting the day with mostly cloudy skies in the Triad, but clearer weather is expected later today. By lunchtime, enjoy partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the lower-80s.

Highs today are going to be quite seasonable, in the upper-80s. There is a slim, 20% chance of pop-up showers this afternoon and tonight. Low temperatures will be near 70 degrees.

Similar weather is on the way on Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and highs near 90 degrees.

A powerful heat dome develops across the Eastern U.S. for the rest of the week, bringing a range of high temperatures between 95 and 100 degrees through next weekend. The heat index, especially Friday and Saturday, is expected to be in the 103 to 105 degrees range. Skies stay sunny through Saturday, producing relentless heat exposure for Independence Day festivities.  Of particular concern is the expected warmth of our overnight lows, which will be in the mid-70s. This will not provide any relief from the heat at night and will increase the risk of heat illness.

Please have multiple plans ready to stay cool for the holiday weekend. Being outdoors for a prolonged period of time with temperatures and humidity that high can be dangerous. Even if you plan to spend time by the pool, you will want to drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade or indoors.

By Sunday, we will start a modest cooldown with highs in the mid-90s. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day, which will bring us some beneficial rain to the forecast…
